Mandrill is an international hit man on a quest for vengeance after witnessing his family’s murder as a child. His target: the feared mob boss known only as Cyclops. The only way to Cyclops? Through his beautiful daughter. Mandrill is smooth. Mandrill is deadly. His body is a highly tuned weapon able to strike his target and the hearts of women with equal ease. But he was not always such and as the story follows him on his quest for vengeance, it also takes us through the years that shaped him into the man he has become, from the tragedy of his family’s death, to the action films he learned to emulate, to the fabled Technique for landing women taught to him by his uncle.

Get ready, martial arts fans, because the Chilean duo of star Marko Zaror and writer-director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza is back and this time, the creators of KILTRO and MIRAGE MAN aren’t fooling around. Okay, so maybe they are still fooling around, but only a little bit and there’s no denying that they’re throwing something new into the mix with their latest effort, the award-winning action hit MANDRILL. Though he does not entirely shed the slightly goofy persona he adopted in both KILTRO and MIRAGE MAN, Zaror shows an entirely new side to himself here. This is Zaror as serious action star, Zaror as romantic lead. And he nails both parts of the role with equal precision. The action is as powerful as ever, the stunt team sticking with the highly acrobatic, wire- and CGI-free style that earned them international attention in the first place. Zaror simply crackles on screen as an action star. Likewise, there’s some real chemistry in the romantic side of things, no surprise as Zaror and his love interest became a couple in real life after shooting the film. There is seemingly no limit to Zaror’s potential on screen. We already knew he was one of the greatest screen fighters in the world and now he shows us a new element to his acting skills, one that won MANDRILL both the Best Picture and Best Actor awards when it had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2009.
