Description

Jun Tendo’s a pretty ordinary teenage student living in modern-day Kyoto. In fact, he’s hardly the type to stick his neck out. Not the kind of guy you’d expect to be targeted for attack by a small, mysterious monster, or to be hurled back through time 1,200 years to the Heian era. Remembered as a peaceful time in Japanese history, the Heian period, Jun discovers, was in fact a time of devastating war between the stout-hearted imperial forces and an army of ferocious oni, or demons. Jun bears a birthmark in the form of a dragon, marking him as fated to be the humans’ saviour, he who will release and command the legendary dragon Orochi. Urged forward by the expert swordsman Raiko and all-powerful monk Gen’un, Jun is ambivalent about his new role as champion warrior, and his uncertainties can only grow as he discovers hidden truths about these deadly demons…

One of Fantasia’s first great successes in anime programming was 1999’s opening film, SPRIGGAN, memorable for its razor-sharp design, its smart storyline and especially its amazingly kinetic and exciting action sequences. SPRIGGAN’s director, Hirotsugu Kawasaki (who also helmed the second NARUTO feature film in 2005), returns with a magnificent, dynamic work of historical fantasy adventure, adapted from the two-part novel by Takafumi Takada. Eagerly awaited by a legion of anime buffs, LEGEND OF THE MILLENNIUM DRAGON bears the stamp of the Studio Pierrot production team — the same gang responsible for numerous releases in the NARUTO and BLEACH series. Carefully crafted, rich in historical detail and distinctive character design, nuanced and insightful in its emotional structure and of course, breathtaking in its unleashing of furious supernatural combat, LEGEND OF THE MILLENNIUM DRAGON is an anime legend in the making!
