“A production of audacious immediacy, an energy and enthusiasm that can’t but attract attention” - Ronan Doyle, NEXT PROJECTION

“You don’t get what you want by striking fear into everyone to get your way. It’s about letting yourself love — and be loved.” So says Jon, the product of a sinister invention created by Yuri, an evil child catcher who manufactures living dolls. A long forgotten toy-turned-humanoid assembly line worker, Jon spends his days harvesting newborn cabbage babies. Years amidst the grey-tinged factory walls have turned Jon into a mere shell of a man — the days of being loved and cared for grow more and more faint as time slips by. One day Jon and his wife Mary get up the courage to steal one of the newborns, and escape from the shadowy confines of their factory world to enter the human world. Unbeknownst to Mary, Jon has another motivation behind their escape — having just discovered the identity of his mother, Jon is determined to seek her out and carve out a place for himself in the world with a new sense of identity and a fully formed family to call his own. But all too soon Yuri and his darkly sinister band of thieves are hot on Jon and Mary’s trail while they start to hatch a nefarious plan to upgrade their product for the next generation.

PATCH TOWN is a riotous musical overflowing with wry humour and striking dystopian visuals in the vein of Jean-Pierre Jeunet (AMELIE, DELICATESSEN, MICMACS). Based on the award-winning 2011 short of the same name, PATCH TOWN features an exceptional array of top-tier Canadian talent that includes the sublime Julian Richings and the incomparable Scott Thompson of KIDS IN THE HALL fame. The freedom to be a family, and choose the place we call home seems like an inalienable right — what PATCH TOWN makes clear is that these are things that need to be preserved and cherished wherever we go in life. With its powerhouse vocals and a stunningly inventive alternate universe, PATCH TOWN is a wonderfully fantastical story for all ages.
