DJ XL5's Vibraslap Zappin' Party
- 110 mins
For his lucky thirteenth annual program of short films, DJ XL5 has selected 20 intriguing items and slipped them in amid a mix of old TV ads, film snippets and bursts of static, to simulate a productive evening of channel surfing with the gang at home. SIMON’S CAT, by the U.K.’s Simon Tofield, returns with four new episodes, including A VISIT AT THE VET (Canadian premiere), a 13-minute episode in colour. Belgium sends its best regards with L’OURS NOIR by Méryl Fortunat Rossi and Xavier Seron, a mockumentary with a bloody bite, shot in Quebec. Cowboy, Indien and Cheval are back in LA RENTRÉE DES CLASSES by Vincent Patar and Stéphane Aubier of France (Canadian premiere). CAMPING COSMIQUE, by Jimmy G. Pettigrew and François Mercier, is a very strange phenomenon from Quebec…
Also from our belle province, discover five fake ads with a satirical streak: ESPACE FUMEUR and NUAGE FÂCHÉ by Michael Lalancette, DÉPANNEUR POTVIN by Mathieu L. Portelance, LE PORTE-CLÉS MAGIQUE SCAN AND GO by François Savard et SECTION POÉSIE by Farid Kassouf. From elsewhere in Canada comes THE CHICKENING by Nick DenBoer and Davy Force, a rather bizarre reimagining of THE SHINING. The likeably libidinous GWILLIAM (Canadian premiere), by Brian Lonano, is made in the USA, as is the hilarious ’n’ heavy DEATH METAL by Chris McInroy (World premiere), and the cathartic howler OVERTIME by Craig D. Foster (International premiere). This year DJ XL5 pays tribute to deranged U.K. animator Lee Hardcastle with no less that five of his recent pieces: THE SIMPSONS COUCH GAG [YOU'RE NEXT], MINION WAYS TO DIE, EXPENSIVE SPLIFF BY PES, PAT'S PET CEMETERY and DOOM. DJ XL5 is the only Fantasia programmer who gets thing started 20 minutes ahead of showtime. Wild trailers and musical oddities await those wise enough to arrive early!
