« Un film explosif ! » - CLOSER
Serge Buren’s reputation is set in stone. Despite its unconventional methods, his young police squad always manages to close their cases. When the new chief, Cartier, wants to put an end to their unsubtle interventions, which he considers barbaric and inappropriate, tensions rise within the department. Things get worse when a gang of particularly talented thieves target Paris’ banks and jewellery stores, leaving a large wave of bodies in their wake. Faced with such a combination of brutality and expertise, Buren and his crew have to make a choice: follow their superior’s by-the-book instructions, or keep knocking heads in order to quickly collar these increasingly devious hoodlums.
A French adaptation of the British film THE SWEENEY (2012), ANTIGANG is the third feature film from Benjamin Rocher, whom many discovered with LA HORDE and GOAL OF THE DEAD (Fantasia 2014). This time, Rocher leaves horror and zombies behind to deliver an absolutely delirious action flick. Just like his first two films, it’s clear that he’s well versed in the genre’s conventions. The numerous action sequences are aptly directed and the fight scenes are always spectacular in their originality. Never taking himself too seriously, he deftly manages to balance humour, action and suspense. And then there’s Jean Reno! As usual, this icon of French genre cinema gives an effortless and most satisfying performance. Rocher ultimately brings all the necessary ingredients together to create an explosive, captivating and highly entertaining action film. The director’s love for the genre is noticeable in every single shot of this film, a generous work of art filled with amazing action sequences from a solid screenplay full of hard-hitting dialogue. Rocher is coming into his own, and the crowds are sure to beg for more!
