Go Ju-yeon (Kim Hye-soo) is a famous diva on the decline. Self-centered and arrogant, she has always gotten what she wants, whether clothes, or the affection of younger stars. Pushing 40, however, she finds herself having a hard time finding roles, not to mention being taken seriously, to the great despair of her long-time friend and exasperated stylist Pyung-Gu (Don Lee, AKA Ma Dong-seok). To add insult to injury, it becomes apparent her rookie actor of a boyfriend is cheating on her and only using her to climb up the ladder to stardom. A crazy plan soon hatches in Go’s distraught mind: what if she had a child? Perhaps it could shame her ex-boyfriend, and revitalize her career? When she meets the young Dan-ji (Kim Hyeon-soo), the idea goes from wild dream to hard reality – but so does her perfect life, soon unraveling into a series of scandals of near-slapstick proportions!

Carried by a wonderful performance from one of South Korea’s most impressive actresses, Kim Hye-soo (COIN LOCKER GIRL, THE THIEVES), and featuring the powerhouse Don Lee (AKA Ma Dong-seok in TRAIN TO BUSAN, THE FIVE, THE UNJUST) in a great supporting role as the badass stylist, FAMILYHOOD is a perceptive comedic drama about feminine fame and family – as filtered through the ruthless milieu that is South Korea’s film industry, and its cult of youth and beauty. Kim Tae-gon (of SUNSHINE BOYS and THE POT) weaves a tale of ego that gleefully twists and turns into a classic tale of personal growth, exposing a myriad of clichés and double standards inherent to South Korea’s perception of motherhood, whether young or old; a portrait of women in the entertainment business and lots of heartfelt fun!
