Welcome to the 21st edition

I am pleased to welcome you to the 21st edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival. The year 2017 has already started for us, with events produced by our Frontières Co-Productions Market, and the first official year of our partnership with the Cannes Film Festival Film Market. In February, we inaugurated the Financing & Project Development Forum in Amsterdam, from which a number of Quebec and Canadian film projects have emerged. In May, we organized events at the Cannes Film Festival, including presentations of film excerpts at production and networking meetings for the international film industry. The activities organized by Frontières have been very successful. The directors of the Cannes Film Market have also named them as one of the highlights of their event. Representatives of the international industry will meet again at the Frontières Co-Productions Market, which will take place from 20 to 23 July as part of the Fantasia Festival.

Fantasia has grown over the years to become an event now firmly established on the calendar of industry professionals and media around the world. This recognition allows us to have access to the best recent productions and to have the pleasure of welcoming their creators, who want to be present so as not to miss this unique experience.

All this is made possible thanks to the faithful cinephiles who turn out, year after year, in great numbers at the festival. The Fantasia audience is recognized throughout the world as one of the most knowledgeable, in addition to their legendary enthusiasm and the warm welcome they offer the guests who visit us in ever increasing numbers.

Finally, I would like to thank the wonderful community of employees, collaborators and companies who work with such dedication in producing the festival. If there is a reason for the success of the event over the past 20 years, it is undoubtedly the passion with which this community as a whole is working, striving to create the best experience for the festival’s amazing audience. In particular, I would like to highlight the exceptional work of our team of programmers, who have found the best of the best, taking us on another unforgettable cinematic odyssey to the four corners of the world.

Bon cinéma!
